Vanity-type stuff

Obviously, I'm still new to HTML, but I've been a writer for years, so on these pages content is king! I have begun a guide to shortwave radio listening called The Radio Pages. Right now this will primarily be of interest to beginners, but I will keep adding to it, so check back periodically and someday you may learn something. In the meantime, if you are an old hand yourself, please have a look around, and tell me what you think people new to the hobby might want and need. There are also a few words about air-cooled Volkswagens, and, to assuage my raging ego, a link (which will take you to the Austin Chronicle web site-use the "back" button on your browser to return) to one of my short stories. Sure, it's narcissistic of me, but this is a vanity page!

Lake Haviland, in southwestern Colorado, reflects the surrounding sky and mountains in this photo, which I took with a disposable Kodak camera on a perfectly still day. After I ran to our car to get a BETTER camera and ran back, the wind had picked up, and the waves on the water dispelled the reflection. This proves any idiot can take an interesting photo, with any kind of camera, if he is in the right place at the right time.

If you came here looking for my father, Daniel D. Zabcik, Maj. USAF (Ret.), Secretary of University of Texas at Austin Class of '50, metal building industry pioneer, and fisherman and golfer extraodinaire, drop me a line, I'll put you in touch with him.

If your last name is Zabcik, and you came here while looking for family information, yes, there are others. If you don't recognize my name, and you are curious, well, so am I! Send me a message and we can determine if we are related (we almost certainly are).

I am very open to suggestions which will improve these pages, and you can send them to the webmaster.
